Girls’ Generation vocalist and Global Diva Tiffany Young arrived in Manila to attend the press conference for her concert, Open Hearts Eve in Manila.
The press conference was held at Novotel Manila Araneta City in Cubao yesterday, January 24. Tiffany came wearing a black off-shoulder dress, greeted the crowd with her signature 90-degree bow, and happily posed for pictures.
“I had no idea traffic would be this crazy,” chuckled Tiffany. The press conference emcee started the event by asking if her impression of the Philippines has changed—her solo concert would mark Tiffany’s third official visit to the Philippines—The Global Diva mentioned that her fans (SONEs and Young Ones) are sweet enough to give her all the hot snacks from the Philippines. She also mentioned chicken adobo and garlic rice to be her favorite Filipino food. As for the tropical climate in the country, Tiffany seems to have no complaints. Being born and raised in the United States, Tiffany proclaims that she’s a Cali girl at heart. “I’m a Leo (Note: Tiffany was born in August, which is considered summer season in the US). I live for this weather.”
Tiffany debuted as a member of Girls’ Generation in August 2007. Nine years later, in 2016, she debuted as a solo artist with her first extended play I Just Wanna Dance. When Tiffany was asked what was the biggest change she had since then, she answered that being a full-on responsible woman has become the biggest change.
Truly, Tiffany has grown in the eyes of all her supporters. From being known as the member who is “brighter than gems” in Girls’ Generation, Tiffany has since made her mark as a proud Korean-American recording artist. Now that she’s based in the US, Tiffany was asked if there was anything she misses about Korea. While it has been a year and a half since Tiffany moved back to the US, she said that she goes to Korea every eight weeks. “I feel like I represent Cheongdam and West Hollywood now,” she added.
With Korean Dramas having immense popularity in the Philippines alongside K-Pop, she was asked if there are any K-Dramas she is interested in. Before she could answer, Tiffany states that she’s “a big K-Film fan” and even cited the multi-awarded 2019 Korean film Parasite to be her current favorite. Going back to the question, she mainly keeps up with her Girls’ Generation members’ dramas. Even showing some love and support to member Sooyoung who will be starring in a drama that’s slated for release next month. SONEs and Young Ones would agree that Tiffany is the biggest supporter of her bandmates. She also shared that she keeps in touch with the girls a lot and that they’re happy for each other’s achievements.
When asked what K-Pop songs and artists does she currently listen to, she answered Zico and Taeyeon. “I was part of Zico’s ‘Any Song’ challenge. I had so much fun doing it.” Tiffany also added that she likes ITZY and her favorite songs would be ‘Dalla Dalla’ and ‘ICY’.
Last year, Tiffany released Lips on Lips, her first EP under her new agency, Transparent Arts. Aside from that, she was also the recipient of the Best Solo Breakout Award at the 2019 iHeartRadio Awards. Seeing how she had such a fruitful year, she was asked what was the highlight of her 2019. “Highlight of 2019 would be touring all the tours. I just found this joy and addiction in seeing my fans every night,” she answered. When she was asked to describe 2019 in one word, she concluded “fearless”. And added that the year 2020 is all about being brave.

And since her music was in discussion, she was asked about her next album release. Tiffany says that it’s too early to say right now but mentioned that she’s always in the studio. “I want the creativity and the music to lead the way,” she answered.
Of course, Tiffany being a big Disney fan was also brought up. Especially since the Philippines is home to acclaimed Broadway and Disney performer Lea Salonga. Without hesitation, Tiffany said that she’s a big fan of the singer. And even watched all her Broadway shows from Les Misérables to Miss Saigon. In her own words, she says “Lea Salonga is such a queen, such a diva. The original Disney princess. Not just Mulan, but also Princess Jasmine.” She wasn’t able to hide her fangirl side as she continued by saying that Lea Salonga is such an inspiration to Asians and Asian-American women.
With her shining eyes and contagious smile (truly brighter than any gem in the world), the emcee noted that Tiffany radiates so much positive energy, to which the press agreed, and was then asked how does she manage to keep this up and if she has any routine for it. She answered that music and her fans help her get through it. “Just being grateful every day,” she added. Tiffany also mentioned starting a gratitude journal, in which she writes three positive things about her day. “Spread the positiffany!” She cheerfully said.
As the press conference was coming to an end, and since her concert is on a holiday (Chinese New Year), Tiffany was asked if she had any new year’s wish for herself. Her wish is “To continue to tour. I want to continue to do music and I want to continue to make people happy. I hope this year we’d make more happy memories on tour.” Being a true sweetheart, she also said she wants to make a new year’s wish together with her fans at the concert.
