SM Entertainment joined hands with Jongro Haneul Education to establish an educational institution for K-Pop global stars!
SM Entertainment announces that they will establish SM Institute (SMI). It will be built on the site of the Dongnang Arts Center (formerly Seoul National University of Arts). This institute is a global art education institute for K-Pop and pop culture talent development.
SMI aims to provide the know-how to nurture talent based on the global success of K-Pop and K-Culture. It also aims to provide specialized language education such as Korean, English, Chinese, and Japanese for students who will become global stars.
In addition, SMI will also participate in the establishment and operations of ESteem, which is an affiliate of SM Entertainment, specializing in models, entertainers, influencer management, and more. In that way, SMI will produce more models and other stars through the operation of the Academy of Actors.
Since 2016, SM and Jongro Haneul Education have been able to provide students with the highest level of cultural education programs. It includes the development of culture technology (CT), which combines know-how in discovering stars and producing cultural contents. In addition, it provides the development of language education programs and established specialized curriculums.
Moreover, by combining the offline education curriculum with advanced learning technology using Ed-tech, they can provide excellent global art education services even during this COVID-19 pandemic. The two companies also plan to export Korea’s excellent Ed-tech solutions and contents overseas.
SMI is preparing to open classes in March 2021 and plans to recruit students from October. They will also establish branches overseas to lead the Korean Wave in the education business.
